A heated, salt-treated pool for refreshing and relaxing after a day of sightseeing or a long journey, nestled in the gardens of Ferme Chapouton. Open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The natural swimming pool in the Mediterranean Garden
Located 300 meters from the Main House, this site, open in fine weather, boasts an exceptional view of the village of Grignan. Our garden offers a collection of lavender, rockrose, rosemary, and plants that do not require long-term watering, covering approximately 1500m². No chemicals are used (organic fertilizers). In addition to a natural swimming pool (a swimming pool without chemical treatment), the Mediterranean Garden offers a Lovers’ Pavilion, featuring a small garden with a private terrace and an exceptional view of the village.
Our natural swimming pool is located in an old above-ground stone pool measuring 13 m by 5 m, with a depth of 1.10 meters. To our knowledge, it was once used as a fishpond and for irrigating neighboring gardens. No chemical treatment is used to sanitize the water. Its sanitary quality is ensured naturally in the regeneration zone (dug into the ground) separated from the swimming area. It is based on three principles: water movement, filtration (by gravel, sand, and various rocks), and oxygenation (by plants). This system is inspired by groundwater. Health monitoring is provided by the Regional Health Agency.
To ensure optimal natural water regeneration, access to the swimming pool is permitted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
HOW NATURAL BATHING WORKS
1. Filtered water arrives at the bottom of the swimming pool.
2. Overflow into the overflow.
3. Circulation between pebbles in a pipe.
4. Filter then passage through a vortex.
5. Transfer to the regeneration zone.
6. Arrival at the bottom of a well.
7. Circulation between layers of gravel, sand, and rock.
8. By overflow, passage into a second sector sealed off from the first. Circulation between the plants then infiltration to the bottom, again through the different layers of rock, gravel, and sand.
9. Suction from the bottom (sector 8) by a lifting motor: the only mechanical part of the system.
10. Return of the filtered water to the pool.
